Scope of Manuscripts for CNS Spectrums
MBL Communications will consider and encourages the following types of articles for publication for CNS Spectrums:
1. Original Research presents methodologically sound, new original study data that is in the following format: objective, methods, results, discussion, and conclusion. Suitable topics include mood disorders, schizophrenia and related disorders, personality disorders, substance-use disorders, anxiety disorders, neuroscience, psychosocial aspects of psychiatry, child psychiatry, geriatric psychiatry, and other topics of interest to clinicians.
2. Reviews that are comprehensive articles, which summarize and synthesize the literature on various neuropsychiatric topics and presented in a scholarly and clinically relevant fashion. Diagnostic and treatment algorithms should be designed to aid the clinician in diagnosis and treatment.
3. Scholarly Case-Based Reviews ranging from 3,500-5,000 words, excluding references.
4. Letters to the Editor that are no longer than 750 words, excluding references, will be considered and are encouraged for publication. All letters will be edited for style, clarity, and length.
Scope of Manuscripts for Primary Psychiatry
MBL Communications will consider and encourages the following types of articles for publication for Primary Psychiatry:
Original Research presents methodologically sound, new original study data that is in the following format: objective, methods, results, discussion, and conclusion. Suitable topics include mood disorders, schizophrenia and related disorders, personality disorders, substance-use disorders, anxiety disorders, neuroscience, psychosocial aspects of psychiatry, child psychiatry, geriatric psychiatry, and other topics of interest to clinicians.
Reviews are comprehensive articles summarizing and synthesizing the literature on various neuropsychiatric topics and presented in a scholarly and clinically relevant fashion. Diagnostic and treatment algorithms should be designed to aid the clinician in diagnosis and treatment.
Case Reports - for Primary Psychiatry only (10-12 pages, including references) Single or multiple case reports are encouraged and will be considered for publication.
Educational Reviews — Diagnostic and Treatment Algorithms - for Primary Psychiatry only Original flowcharts designed to aid the clinician in diagnosis and treatment of a psychiatric disorder or class of disorders. Educational reviews should include an introduction, a flowchart or series of graphs that fill six to eight journal pages, and a concise summary.
Letters to the Editor will be considered and are encouraged for publication. All letters will be edited for style, clarity, and length.
Manuscript Submission
General Information for both CNS Spectrums and Primary Psychiatry
CNS Spectrums and Primary Psychiatry have implemented the ScholarOne Manuscripts program to manage all future submissions. ScholarOne Manuscripts (formerly known as Manuscript Central) is a web-based submission, peer review, and editing program. This system will help to develop a more streamlined and efficient process for tracking peer review data and manuscripts. Manuscripts must be submitted through the ScholarOne website. Please note: The ScholarOne Manuscript link for CNS Spectrums (http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/cnsspectr) and Primary Psychiatry (http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/primarypsy) are listed below.
If possible, manuscripts should be provided in MS Word (saving the file in a lower version, eg, MS Word 3.0, is also encouraged.) Diagrams, tables, and figures should be provided in PhotoShop, Adobe Illustrator, PowerPoint, MS Word, or JPEG formats.

Letters of Permission to Reproduce Previously Published Material All material reproduced from previously published copyrighted material must be accompanied by a letter of permission from the copyright holder. All such material should include a full credit line (eg, in the figure or table legend) acknowledging the original source. Any citation of unpublished material or personal communication should also be accompanied by a letter of permission for anyone who is not an author of the paper.
Suggested Peer Reviewers (Required) Authors must provide at least 4 names of qualified potential reviewers who do not have any conflict of interest in reviewing the work. Contact information with affiliations and e-mail addresses should be included. Peer reviewers are anonymous during the review process.
Manuscript Preparation
Length Reviews, Scholarly Case-Based Reviews, and Original Research should not exceed 5,000 words for CNS Spectrums or 3,000-3,500 words for Primary Psychiatry (excluding the Reference List). Diagnostic and treatment algorithms (only considered for Primary Psychiatry) should contain an introduction, flowcharts or a series of graphs, and a concise summary. Letters to the Editor should not exceed 100-500 words. Single Case Reports (only considered for Primary Psychiatry) should not exceed 3,000-3500 words (excluding the Reference List).
Please note: If your article is Original Research, it should be formatted as follows: Abstract (100–200 words); Introduction, Methods; Results; Discussion; Conclusion.
Spacing and Pagination Manuscripts should be double-spaced.
Abstract Authors must provide an abstract of 100-200 words; a paragraph that serves as a summary of the entire paper; outlining the main ideas for the reader.
Focus Points Provide 3-5 points that dictate the main focus of the manuscript in bulleted format.
Figures/Tables At least 2 figures and/or tables per article are required. Please provide original tables and/or figures if content is amenable to it.
References Please use American Medical Association style. References should be superscripted in text, then numbered, and comprehensive in list. Please provide both volume and issue numbers for article references. For example:

Copyright Materials are accepted for exclusive publication in CNS Spectrums and Primary Psychiatry and become the property of MBL Communications. Permission to reproduce material must be obtained from the publisher.
Disclosure of Commercial and Non-Commercial Interests
All lead authors and co-authors must include a statement about all forms of support, including grant and pharmaceutical support, affiliations, and honoraria received within the past 12 months.
PLEASE NOTE: Disclosure information must be listed separately for each author, and each disclosure must be listed in the following format: 1) the institution or affiliation for each disclosure listed; 2) the specific activity with each corresponding institution (speaker’s bureau, consultant, grant recipient, etc.); and 3) the financial compensation received for the corresponding activity.
Such information may, at the editor’s discretion, be shared with reviewers. If the article is accepted for publication, the editors will consult with the authors as to whether this information should be included in the published paper.
Off-label Usage
Authors must disclose any unlabeled, unapproved, experimental, and/or investigational usages of drugs mentioned in the article and include the condition for which these drugs are being used off-label. Below is an example of the standardized format:
This article includes discussion of the following unapproved/experimental medications for adult ADHD: buproprion, clonidine, guanficine, modafinil, and venlafaxine.
